Mr. Arie, a cool statistics lecturer
Mr. Arie is a lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang. He taught
education statistics in semester 4. He lives in Kotabumi, Tangerang district with his wife and
three children. His wife is also a lecturer at the Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. Mr.
Arie completed her Masters degree at Jakarta State University (UNJ).
Talk about Statistics? Are you familiar? Many of us study it in high school even
though it's not very deep. Statistics is something that needs to be studied at this time. Many
people say that statistics are about data, surveys, counting numbers, and so on. It is true,
statistics is the science of collecting data which is usually in the form of numbers which are
then processed or grouped so that it can become information. In KBBI, statistics is the
science of how to collect, tabulate, classify, analyze, and search for meaningful information
from data in the form of numbers; knowledge relating to data collection, investigation and
conclusions based on evidence, in the form of record numbers (numbers). However, in fact
the statistics originally came from the word "State" which means the country so that statistics
have the meaning of science about the state, especially the analysis of data in a country.
Increasingly, statistics experience development. Statistics has shifted meaning into the
science of data collection and classification not only within the scope of the state, but in
various fields such as mathematics, social, psychology to astronomy.
Why is statistics important? Because with statistics, we can make decisions about the
choice of something, facilitate understanding of data, and facilitate research in various fields.
In addition, statistics allow researchers to work sequentially from beginning to end. In
statistics there are also ways to summarize complex data into information that is easy to
understand. Statistics also provides techniques for comparing various things to analyze a
phenomenon or phenomenon so that the phenomenon is easier to learn. Statistics can also
help in wise decision making. Moreover, there are now many problems or events that have to
do with large data that require the ability of a statistician to handle these cases.
Statistics is also one of the basic abilities that must be learned by a data scientist or a
data science expert in addition to the ability of programming, mathematics and management.
This relatively new profession turned out to be very much needed by the company. Why?
Because the company will be able to predict many things in the future so the company has a
problem solving from big data or big data as the times change in this technological era. Not
surprisingly, lately many educational institutions or universities abroad have opened data
science studies in postgraduate programs. In fact, some claim that Data Science is science
that is hot or very sought after by companies
Statistics may be a bit difficult to learn. However, statistics provide convenience in
various fields in everyday life. Prior to various applications, statistics are actually something
that is already quite close to us. For example, that is, before buying an item, we usually
compare the prices of the items we want to buy even by recording them on a small note. That
way, we become wiser and more selective in terms of purchases so that we can save expenses
As for some statistical applications in various events. Large entrepreneurs often apply
statistics when they want to invest in shares, especially opportunities to gain more profits.
Companies often do sample tests to determine the quality of goods to be distributed to
markets where the company does not take all the goods to be tested but only takes a few
items. Companies use statistics to make a decision whether they will increase the amount of
production of goods by considering historical data in the form of sales numbers of goods that
have been sold previously or whether they will vary products to be more attractive to buyers
who of course also see the conditions in the market. Companies also use statistics to manage
the expenses spent by the company by considering the income they can get each year. The
government conducts a population census within a period of 10 years in which they calculate
data on the number of population in Indonesia, then it is processed. Another example, namely
after the election, many pollsters do a quick count or a quick count which is taken at each
polling station (polling station) in all regions that aim to find out the election results with high
accuracy and short time. Lately, many media have explained the trip of the rupiah exchange
rate against the dollar which is presented in a graph per year in a certain period of time.
Statistics are very important in our daily lives related to their roles and benefits.
Therefore, we must study it more deeply in order to help our daily lives and work. Statistics
is also a science that can be applied anytime and anywhere. Whatever our job, a little more
statistical science will definitely be used. We chose him to be interviewed because the
methods and ways of teaching that made students interested in statistics, even though it was
difficult and very boring.
Since high school, he has liked mathematics. According to him, statistics can help
data collection, which is useful in a study. For this reason, he finally decided to take
mathematics education at Jakarta State University (UNJ). He prefers mathematics in the field
of education, compared to pure mathematics. Because, he thinks that in the world of
education it can interact and socialize with many people.
